Just Amazing!

We have been in Borgo Pantano this September for our honeymoon. The structure is very well preserved. The service has been amazing. We felt pampered for the whole week (we really want to thank them for that).
The restaurant was great too. Much better of a lot of other restaurants in Siracusa.
Giusy, the owner, is a really sweet person. Every morning open to suggestions to what visit and what taste in the area on Siracusa.

Wonderful resort hotel!

Hotel Borgo Pantano was absolutely gorgeous. We visited for 2 nights in late September 2013 and regretted that we did not stay longer. The rooms, buildings, pool, grounds, included breakfast and amenities were outstanding. In fact, this hotel was one of our favorite experiences on our 12 day self-drive Sicily exploration. The pool area was magnificent with lots of chaise lounges, towels, rest room facilities, beverage and snack bar. Daily breakfast was among the best we had in Sicily and included eggs, meats, Sicilian cheeses and freshly baked Sicilian delicacies, as well as juices, cappuccino and other beverage options. Since it is in the Syracuse outskirts and a bit remote, we decided to eat our meals at Borgo Pantana in the evening. We were delighted since there was something for everyone since the menu included pasta, meets, fish, etc. all very well prepared. We even ate lunch by the pool in a tented area that was lovely.

We stayed in a perfectly lovely regular room at the edge of one of the low buildings near the pool area. So, the location was great. In hindsight, we believe the larger rooms are probably worth the extra fee. Unfortunately, despite a heroic effort on the part of the hotel staff, our WIFI did not work in our room. This may have been a problem unique to our room. We could, however, use WIFI for our tablets in the lobby and by the pool.

We believe this property works best if you have a car. The location of the property is outside Syracuse but it was a relatively short drive away. Despite having a GPS, it was a bit of a challenge to find the property, especially after dark.

We highly recommend this hotel. The staff, especially Alice, are outstanding. Food is fabulous as are the facilities.

Beautiful resort; gorgeous grounds

We were frazzled when we arrived. We had had a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and had managed to get to the hotel driving on the “donut.” The staff immediately suggested that we repair to their outdoor café for a snack and a soothing glass of prosecco while they dealt with our luggage and made calls to arrange for the replacement of our tire. The café overlooks the pool and the lovely grounds of the resort.

When we had recovered a bit, the staff arranged a taxi to take us to Ortygia Island and, three hours later, to come back for us.

We had dinner in the hotel dining room and it was excellent. Two highlights: I had an eggplant dish that consisted of two slices of eggplant, coated with breadcrumbs and parmesan and fried. The first slice was put on the plate and covered with fresh ricotta cheese and a bit of Italian honey. The second piece of eggplant was placed on top of this and minced fresh tomatoes added over it. Around the plate was a drizzle of reduced-to-a-syrup balsamic vinegar. The contrast of the acidic balsamic vinegar with the honey, of the crunchy coating on the eggplant with the creaminess of the cheese — memorable. Another dish I had there was a risotto served on top of reduced red wine — each bite of the risotto brought with it the “surprise” of the red wine reduction. Lovely!

Our room was large and clean. The only odd thing about it was that the wall between the bedroom and bath was glass as was the shower enclosure. If you are traveling with a friend (as opposed to a lover or husband), it is a bit disconcerting to have to shower in full view of anyone in the bedroom.

It was very reasonably priced — only 109 euros with breakfast included. You can’t beat that!

Hospitality which is second to none

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, Thanks to Josi, Noemi and their fabulous staff we not only had a great time at the hotel but were able to get a true flavour for the region. Where else can you share your experiences with the hotel’s owner at breakfast every morning! You do need a car as there is nowhere to walk to if you want to leave the hotel but that only serves to highlight the tranquil setting of the hotel among citrus trees in the beautifully maintained gardens. The games room, complete with table football, table tennis and Wii console will keep the kids entertained when the weather is below par. The hotel fully deserves it’s place at the top of the Tripadvisor rankings due to the warmth and attentiveness of the staff who have as much time as you need in order to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We will definitely be returning one day.
